Message from Your 2025 Club President

Mark Gunther

LTMGC Members,

First and foremost, I would like to thank Shawn Brown for his work as Board President for the 2024 season and the entire Board of Directors. There is a lot of work that goes into the tournaments, social events, finances, membership, and sponsorships during the season and this group continues to do a phenomenal job.

In 2024, we feel that the club has continued to make strides to enhance the experience for all members. A few highlights from the 2024 season:

  • Club Championship: Congratulations to Glenn Walls for his outstanding play in the 3-day Club Championship with an impressive -8 par victory. Greg Mcann was the overall NET Club champion with a winning score of -15. Congratulations to these gentlemen and all the flight winners!
  • Gunslinger: The Member/Guest was rebranded to the "Gunslinger" and brought new and fresh ideas to this premier event. Many thanks go to Mike Lynch and Mike Morong as Board members that led a committee to a spectacular end result! The committee consisted of others in the club that volunteered their time to assist in this event.
  • Lone Tree Cup: This event continues to grow and become more popular with all members. There was a lot of discussion, banter, smack talk going around the patio and we look forward to increased participation in 2025. Congratulations to Duane Leveille on a final round net 67 to capture the title.
  • Match Play: Bruce Larsen survived the season long grind of Individual match play to become the overall Individual Match Play Champion and Randy Westrick/ Joe Wilson navigated the team match play bracket to claim the Team Match Play Championship.
  • CGA Doubles Golf: This was new to the club this year and replaced the old "CGA Interclub". This is a two-man scrambler (better ball) event that held qualifying rounds at Lone Tree. The winners proceeded to a State Qualifier and then advanced to a National Championship in Jupiter, Florida to play the Bear's Club. Lone Tree was well represented with 3 teams making it to the Nationals!! Congrats to Ray Kelley/ Garrett Farnsworth (Men's Divisions, Randy Gaddis/ Doug Moore (Senior Division) and Mike Morong/ Claire Morong (Mixed Division).

As we head into the new year, your LTMGC Board will be working to prepare for the upcoming 2025 season. We will have 18 events scheduled for the upcoming season, highlighted by our 3 Major championships: Club Championship, Member/Guest (Gunslinger) and the Member/Member, with 3 optional events with Individual Match Play, Team Match Play and the Lone Tree Cup.

We would like to thank all the sponsors that supported the club in 2024 and hope you will continue your contributions in 2025. If you are interested in a sponsorship, please reach out to Bill Ross, WLR@genoagroup.com.

A continuing challenge for the Board is cancellations and withdrawals from tournaments. When Members sign up for a tournament and cancel after pairings and tee times come out, it causes a lot of issues with the tournament and extra unnecessary work for the tournament director. We urge you to please look at your calendar and ensure that you are available the entire day to avoid cancellations. We encourage everyone to familiarize yourself with the cancellation policy, as we intend to enforce this policy moving forward.

We also want to encourage all to pay attention to your pace of play. With the number of players in the field, one group can cause a 5 + hour round and no one in the club wants to play in 5 + hours!! Please gather yardage as others are hitting, select clubs in a timely manner, read putts as others are putting and keep up with the group in front of you.

Other goals for the 2025 season include evaluating tournaments, hosting social events and increasing payouts per flight. As a Board, we are continually looking for ways to improve the club and are always willing to listen to feedback. Please feel free to reach out to any Board member with ideas.

We are all looking forward to a great 2025 season and can’t wait to see everyone as the weather warms up!!

Mark Gunther
